Music from the part of Russia you can see from Alaska
Sorry for the tired joke but I needed a hook to post this on election day…
The Khatylaevs: Siberian Folk Music at Wesleyan
Wednesday, November 5, 8 pm
World Music Hall, Wesleyan University
German and Klavdia Khatylaev are native musicians from Siberia. Their lively yet haunting folk music is the voice of an ancient Sakha civilization, who’ve sung and played around campfires on the Central Asian plain for centuries. In spite of their Russian nationality, the Sakha have fought hard to maintain their nomadic pagan culture. German and Klavdia are determined to stoke the embers of tradition through music. Their performance includes several revived Sakha instruments that had largely gone out of practice, and a unique style of throat-singing.
