Some people call it bluegrass. Some call it old-timey. Some simple call it string band music. While each label conjures up a slightly different angle on ancient American music, the sound of guitar, fiddle and banjo has inspired a new generation of musician. There's an entire movement of young string bands exploring the reaches of where the tradition has been, and where they can carry it.
Crooked Still, a proponent of "progressive bluegrass" will offer their take on string band music in a concert on Friday at Crowell Concert Hall at Wesleyan University.
