The town of Red Bank, NJ (a very hip little arts enclave) has a sort of an online almost-newspaper/blog thing, called Red Bank Green (with the tag line: A Town Square for an Unsquare Town). They've been at this since June '06 and have some neat features in terms of linking to local meetings (and earning revenue through advertising -- to pay for reporting!) In their own words, they're not really sure what to call it, but it looks like a lively little piece of civic engagement, and I think it's interesting to see how other towns are filling the gap.
Keep at it, Middletown Eyes!
