Coming up this weekend at TBT:

Waberi Jordan
Blues / Jazz / Singer / Songwriter
September 13th @ 8-10 pm $10
Many have likened her to legends like Nina Simone, Roberta Flack, Cassandra Wilson, and contemporaries like Laura Mvula; but the comparison is not solely in the sound of Waberi Jordan’s voice, but in the legacy she exhibits.
More than a beautiful voice and a guitar, Waberi performs music that is reflective of a complex narrative, gently sculpted around jazz, blues, and her own style that makes Jordan highly sought after as a featured vocalist and collaborator. Some of the most innovative and exciting new musicians, from multiple genres, has garnered Waberi a swiftly growing international audience from Los Angeles and New York to UK, France and Amsterdam.
  Friday, September 14th   (1 - 4pm)
Listen to Bruce Swan on WPKN Radio as he talks to Caroline Doctorow
about her upcoming show with Cathy Kreger at The Buttonwood Tree!
WPKN 89.5 FM Bridgeport, CT

Eric Mintel
Jazz Quartet
September 14th @ 8-10 pm $25
The Eric Mintel Quartet isn’t a cover or tribute band playing rote renditions of familiar songs, but a group of highly skilled musicians breathing new life into jazz classics. Their take on Dave Brubeck’s music is well worth the price of admission, but they aren’t a one-trick pony. When they played “Take the A Train,” their interpretation took the audience’s breath away. Then they played “Caravan” as a very rewarding encore. The four of them are so talented; I think they could make great jazz out of any song. In their hands, jazz is certainly not dead or a museum piece. Highly recommended, – Andy
